Note: All images in this folder, except Painted Quilt, are from "Revered Footage of Circadian Paraphernalia". I took my love of photography, along with my love of film, and blended them together through abstract expression.
The Process I viewed my favorite films- which I watched on a regular basis- and froze the screen at various crucial scenes. After which, I used a Polaroid 600 Camera to capture images from the screen. I then used a homemade matte frame, for the Polaroid film to sit on, and scanned the Polaroid image into my computer using an Epson flatbed scanner. My only manipulation of the images was to remove dust spots from the image and correct any lighting/contrast issues.
The Concept I started this project by abstracting my every day objects- such as CD cases and calculators- using an archaic method (i.e. the Polaroid 600). I was pleased with my results and continued to push myself to do further experimentation. I procured the idea of using film imagery when I was viewing one of my favorite films. It was a natural step for me to mix the two mediums into one conception. What followed was the creation of Revered Footage of Circadian Paraphernalia.
This series evolved from a simple exploration of the objects utilized in my daily life to something a bit more substantial. When an audience views a piece from this series, they are asked to question what they are seeing. They are also asked to look beyond the idea that the photograph is an abstraction of something. Perhaps the abstraction can now stand on its own as a work of art without connection to something else. I feel the abstractions in these series blended both concept and media well (including a painterly feel to some of the pieces).
